Over the last couple of years, we at the Women’s Film Fest have sensed that our intrepid independent filmmakers here in Newfoundland and Labrador could use a leg up in getting their projects financed, made, marketed and sold. As filmmaking is a collaborative effort, an online interactive community made a lot of sense as a way to bring the film community together.
Thanks to the Canada Council’s Flying Squad program, we hired the brilliant team at Catapult Media to consult us on how to go about it. We also approached key members of the local film industry to get their feedback. And, the moovy.ca project was chosen to take part in the Banff Centre’s Interactive Projects Lab (IPL) Cross Platform Mentorship program in November 2007. It was at Banff that moovy.ca really began to take shape…namely in the form of a silver hat. Our moovy.ca project was work-shopped with a team of international experts in interactive technology and marketing.
Through the jigs and reels, moovy.ca is emerging as an online space for filmmakers that will provide crucial opportunities for networking, production, promotion, mentorship and dialogue. Moovy.ca extends the Festival’s mandate to provide training, mentorship and outreach, as well as to support and facilitate local independent film production.
But we can’t do it without you moovers and shakers out there so climb aboard the moovy.ca train…opportunities await you!
