Wow, there’s a lot of moooving and shaking in the local film scene right now. Not one, but three Newfoundland films have made it into the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival, including Jordan Canning (producer/director) and Jody Richardson's (writer) short drama Bedroom, Rhonda Buckley (producer) and Sherry White's (writer/director) short drama Spoiled and Newfound Films (producer Anna Petras and director Justin Simms) and Joel Hynes/Sherry White's (writers) feature film Down To The Dirt. These films, among others from the province, are also screening at the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax, among other festivals.
Do you have any film and festival news to share?
Also, be sure to check out Emily Bridger’s short, Epilogue and interview here on moovy.ca. Emily’s an emerging filmmaker from St. John’s, now living in Toronto. You may have seen it already at The Nickel in June, but did you know it screened a few weeks ago in Montreal’s YoungCuts as well? Silver moovy hats off to our stellar filmmakers!

Justin Simm's "Night Work: A Sawchuk Poem" at Atlantic
Night Work: A Sawchuk Poem (shot at Beachy Cove with the whole cast and crew from your town!) will be featured at the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax on Wednesday September 17th at 9:30pm. The film is an adaptation of Corner Brook resident Randall Magg’s book Night Work: The Sawchuk Poems (Brick Books) by Director Justin Simms and screenwriter Greg Spottiswood. This dramatic short is a poignant reflection of hockey legend Terry Sawchuk, underscoring his lasting impression on a young man in a small Newfoundland town. Cast includes Des Walsh, Phil Churchill, Lois Brown with Joshua Hogan and Nathan Hayward in cameo's as "Hockey Boys!"
