Films On The Go - Labrador and Woody Point
September 8, 2008 | Submitted by TravellingMan

So apparently, and this comes from the lips of Kelly Davis, a child of innocence and truth, Happy Valley-Goose Bay was built on a sand bed. Had I not been there and seen first hand the sandy beaches of Northwest River I never would have believed her but turns out it’s true.

We arrived on what was probably the hottest day of the year. So, sandy beaches + 35 degree weather = Labrador? Rub the sand out of your eyes and wake up to tropical Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

And who says there’s nothing to do in town?

Thanks to our massive poster efforts, the beast and beauty of the internet, and some coverage from CBC boy wonder Byron Hamel (who, oddly enough, worked on Being Innu), word got out about our stellar screenings and the crowds flocked to the Arcturus Theatre to check it out.

While we're on the subject, why didn't anyone tell me Woody Point was so beautiful? This past weekend saw two screenings at the beautifully restored Woody Point Heritage Theatre run by Charlie Payne.

Now Charlie Payne's dad, Walter Payne, is 78 years young today so if you're in the area, stop by and wish him a good one. We did and he loved us for it.

In the coming days, I'll be adding more pictures and some video footage to our Facebook event page. Or maybe even here if I can figure out this YouTube video embedding thing. Yes, I can coordinate a month of screenings and workshops around the province but checking videos I find a bit more difficult.

release form

Um, hi Jon, it's Kelly here. I don't believe you secured a release form from me for this stellar footage? I would also like to add that our audience tripled on the following night...not quite breaking fire code but an awesome turn-out from the fine people of Happy Valley-Goose Bay nonetheless! Thanks for putting the video together, and wow, kudos to your foley artist...
