Post Festival Depression

The Cure For Post Festival Depression Is Here!!!
November 17, 2008 | Submitted by BABS

Hey everyone. I am so excited! There's a party going on this Tuesday - just for us! And it's coming just in time because I really need a shot of something strong to cure me of my Post Festival Depression.

The invite is here.

That new girl in town - what's-her-name - is co-throwing it. It'll be held upstairs at Tangled up in Blue and it's the first ever ink canada [the facebook edition] event in Newfoundland - they hold these inkie informal get-togethers in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver semi-regularly, and now its our turn. Yay us!

The 48th INKie MOOVY Groovy party will also feature Gemini nominee Rosemary House (48thparallelproject.com) as a special guest, as well as the home team - our dear MOOVY gang.

You've got to come people! We'll be watching The Flight of the Conchords - it's sooooo funny. A definite PFD cure. I just saw the first three episodes of that show last week and I am in love. I haven't seen anything that hysterical in a long time. It almost gives me hope. Almost.

There will also be other fun, joy and merrymeetingment (new girl's words not mine) to be had, and it'll be a blast. I am so looking for a spark to cure me of my depression and to get me writing again. I mean, it's the 20th anniversary of the Women's Film Festival next year, and I want to be ready with more than a haiku.

Have you guys been to ink canada? It's awesome. It's a group on Facebook dedicated to Canadian screenwriters - film, tv, doc, and new media - lead by champ Karen Walton (she of Ginger Snaps, Queer as Folk, 11th Hour, Variety magazine it girl, etc. etc blah blah blah fame.)

She's amazing. What energy, and she'll really go that extra mile for you. If you have any questions, go look for them on the ink Discussion Boards. Chances are they are answered in more detail than you could have imagined by some of Canada's top writers and filmmakers. If the answers aren't there, ask away, and Karen will practically see to it personally that they be answered.

Walton really wants to see a strong film tradition here in Canada, and she believes it won't happen if we keep writing away on our own, in our own little solitary corners, wearing ratty pyjamas with a smoke hanging out of our mouth and a bottle of bourbon lying on the floor at our feet. Hmm...she might not have actually said it that way, but you get the drift.

So, head on over to ink canada. Anyone can join - and you really should if you are in, or want to be in the film and TV industry in Canada. It's not just talk about writing that is discussed on there, it's all about filmmaking and broadcasting - the whos, whats, ifs and abouts. And it's not just about Canada either. It's the big picture.

Ok, I'm gonna go scootch on over to ink canada right now. I like checking to see if Denis McGrath (http://heywriterboy.blogspot.com/) has written anything new. He's got a real edge.

Make sure to sign up to be a friend using Facebook and you will be notified of cool events, news and other stuff pertinent to the industry. I'll see you there.

NB - word of warning. The Search on the discussion boards doesn't work - they were broken with the arrival of Facebook 2 and yes it really sucks, for obvious reasons, and I don't know when they will get fixed. I tried Googling search terms using "ink canada" in paranthesese to see if Google had indexed any threads, but that turned up nothing. Hmm. Guess I will have to read every page.

Loves ya,
BABS!

Post Festival Depression Is Killing Me
October 24, 2008 | Submitted by BABS

Hi all.

I can't get out of bed. I have Post Festival Depression AKA PFD real bad.

Oh sure, the first day that I couldn't get out of bed was all about the hangover. Day 2, 3 and 4 were all about the post-fest crash and cold. But Day 5 - well this is just PFD - Post Festival Depression - because regular life can't compare to UBER FESTIVAL LIFE.

Oh yeah, I can stroll on over to the Masonic temple right now. But it won't be filled with brilliant people from around the country with the same interest as me who either want to share their tips on filmmaking, story telling or where to get the tight-fisted FEDS' money. Nope.

For sure, I can walk into the Majestic theatre, but there won't be films from all over the world playing to enraptured audiences.

And yes, I can put on my dancing shoes - but hula hoops and balloons won't magically appear and I won't get that urge to boogie down to Mama Cutsworth tunes, or the Subtitles' grooves.

All I can do is rollover in bed and hope that my cat Lulu won't bite me when I encroach on her space.

There's got to be a better way.

Send remedies in the comments.
