Yakov Butakov is the founder and owner of Moovy, a licensed moving company based in East York and working across Toronto, the GTA and the rest of Ontario. Moovy began with a bad move of his own: a crew that arrived late, no materials to wrap anything, furniture handled carelessly, and an invoice at the end carrying charges nobody had mentioned. That day turned into a plan — build the moving company he had wanted to hire. In the spring of 2022 he did exactly that, spending the first months assembling and training crews and working out every step of the process, from the first phone call to the last box carried in.
He writes here about the parts of a move that a quote never covers: booking a service elevator and the certificate of insurance a building will ask for, why reserving parking in front of a house saves more than an hour of billed time, and when furniture genuinely needs to come apart rather than being taken apart to pad the clock.
